Guru Raam Daas Ji
ਬੈਠਾ ਸੋਢੀ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹੁ ਰਾਮਦਾਸੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਕਹਾਵੈ।
Now Guru Ram Das, an emperor from the Sodhi lineage, seated on the Guru's throne, is called the true Guru.
ਪੂਰਨੁ ਤਾਲੁ ਖਟਾਇਆ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਸਰਿ ਵਿਚਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਜਗਾਵੈ।
He had the complete pool dug, and settling down in Amritsar, he awakened the divine light.
(Bhai Gurdaas Ji Vaaran)
The fourth embodiment of Sri Akaal Purakh is Guru Raam Das Ji. Guru Raam Das Ji was born on 24 September 1534 in Chuna Mandi, Lahore. Formerly known as Jetha, he became orphaned at the age of seven and was raised by his maternal grandmother in a village.
At the age of 12, Bhai Jetha moved with his maternal grandmother to Goindwal Sahib, where they encountered Guru Amar Daas Ji. Bhai Jetha became a disciple of Guru Amar Daas Ji and eventually married their daughter, thus becoming part of Guru Amar Daas Ji's family. Instead of choosing their own sons, Guru Amar Daas Ji selected Bhai Jetha as the new successor of the Sikhs and renamed him 'Raam Das' (the servant of God).
Guru Raam Das Ji founded the city of Amritsar, where Sri Harimandir Sahib is located. Originally, Guru Raam Das Ji discovered the land and named it 'Ramdaspur'. He began by completing the sacred pool (as instructed by Guru Amar Daas Ji). Over time, the town grew and eventually became the city of Amritsar.
Guru Raam Das Ji passed away on 1 September 1581 in Goindwal Sahib, and the Gurgaddi was then passed on to their son, Guru Arjan Dev Ji.
