ਲਹਣੇ ਪਾਈ ਨਾਨਕੋ ਦੇਣੀ ਅਮਰਦਾਸਿ ਘਰਿ ਆਈ।

What Lahina received from Guru Nanak now came to the house of (Guru) Amar Das.

ਗੁਰੁ ਬੈਠਾ ਅਮਰੁ ਸਰੂਪ ਹੋਇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਈ ਦਾਤਿ ਇਲਾਹੀ।

Having received the divine gift from Guru Angad, the Guru, in the form of Amar Das, is seated.

(Bhai Gurdaas Ji Vaaran)

The third embodiment of Sri Akaal Purakh is Guru Amar Das Ji. Guru Ji was born on 23 May 1479 to Mata Bakht Devi and Tej Bhan Bhalla in Basarke village, Amritsar.

Guru Amar Das Ji preached about the qualities of an ideal devotee of Sri Akaal Purakh. He spoke against meaningless rituals (such as sati) and encouraged the Kshatriya people to fight for the protection of the innocent and saints, all for the establishment of Dharma. It was Guru Amar Das Ji who chose the site in the village of Amritsar to establish what would later become Harimandir Sahib (the temple of Hari - the One).

Guru Amar Das Ji passed away on 1 September 1574 in Goindwal Sahib, and the Gurgaddi was passed on to Guru Raam Das Ji.
